The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Enter here.  I am not even going to try to summarize our visit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  This place is amazing and just packed with exhibits.  I have never been into the hard rock and heavy metal types of music.  I think I must be too old to appreciate? it.  The highlights of my visit were the early years and the their influences on Rock and Roll.

Early Influences... Billie Holiday   Her sadness resonates in her songs.

I did not know this.

Howlin' Wolf, Les Paul, The Ink Spots, Bessie Smith, Dinah Washington

Bessie Smith, Dinah Washington, The Soul Stirrers, Mahalia Jackson, Woody Guthrie, Bill Monroe

Rhythm and Blues Memorabilia

Country and Bluegrass

The Blues

Howlin' Wolf's Money case.  Heard about him in Memphis.

Frank Zappa had to testify at a senate hearing on censorship as late as 1985.
Senator Ernest Hollings a Democrat from South Carolina: "By God, rescue the tender young ears of this nation from this, this rock porn....  It's outrageous filth, and we've got to do something about it.
Frank Zappa's response: "Rock music was never written for, or performed for, conservative tastes.

Ice-T  Before he was a cop on "Law and Order SVU"
Ice-T 1993:  "Cop Killer" was a protest record, man.  It was a record of anger, and some people didn't understand it...  I have the right to [protest] because the cops are killing my people...
