Cleveland OH Euclid Beach Amusement Park

May 11-18, 2017
Cleveland, OH

We stayed at the Euclid Beach Mobile Home Park for the week.  It is situated inside the footprint of the old Euclid Beach Amusement Park   I found the story of this park to be interesting.
This is what it looks like today.  Our RV lot is on Magnolia and Villa Angela Park is behind us.
These 3 map areas plus the Mobile Park were once the Amusement Park.

http://www.euclidbeach.org/ has published a book as part of its' "Images of America" series. Arcadia Publishing has released "Euclid Beach Park" on September 24, 2012.

In 1895, five Cleveland businessmen opened Euclid Beach Park. Located on the southern shore of Lake Erie, on the east side of Cleveland, this parcel of land would become a magical place that was more than just an amusement park-it was an institution of the community. However, in 1900, "the Beach" faced financial collapse under the original owners. After being rescued by the Humphrey family, Euclid Beach began its ascendancy in the 1901 season. during its 74 years of operation, particularly the "Humphrey years," Euclid Beach Park offered a vast array of major rides and attractions and also utilized industry innovations, in ride design, construction, and park management. Few amusement parks have garnered the affection, memories, and respect that surround the wondrous spot called Euclid Beach Park.

Here are some photos taken from the internet. The park operated from 1895 to 1969.

The original Carousel is preserved at the Western Reserve Museum

The Pier is being restored.

The Rocket Ships were removed and made into cars that are used at festivals.

This Gateway has been preserved.

The Mobile Home Park, a few years back

This area was originally the Tent City and evolved to the cabins and then to the mobile home park.

Remnants of the park, remaining in the Mobile Home Park.  These were probably concession stands.

Laffing Sal, is still around somewhere and is brought out periodically.  She is pretty scary.

A walk through the Euclid Beach Park today. Signs lead us to some remnants of the original park.

Roller coaster foundation

The park today is a pretty area to walk. We believe the circle of grass in this photo is where the carousel stood.

We're told this circle is where the sea swing and then the fountain once was.

Where the pier was and will again be.

Lake Erie

A Warning.

The Beach, the beach is very well maintained and is ready for the warmer weather.

Downtown Cleveland.

Wildwood Marina is located across Euclid Creek adjacent to Euclid Beach

I took these photos in the mobile home park.  Nature has engulfed this light and many of the street signs.  Do you think there's a pole inside this tree?
