The Downtown River Walk and
The Alamo
San Antonio, TX
The Downtown River Walk
Here are some views from along and above the San Antonio River. The walk is lined with restaurants and shops. It's hard to choose where to have lunch. We ate at Paesanos, it was delicious.
Road Construction, it's everywhere.
Toribio Losoya.... A Hispanic Texan who fought and died alongside Travis, Crockett, and Bowie
The Alamo
The Alamo was the former Mission San Antonio de Valero and the last Mission on the Mission trail. It is better known as the fort where a small group of "Texians," never more than 200, fought the battle for independence from Mexico and where Davy Crockett, Colonel Jim Bowie and Lieutenant Colonel William B. Travis died. They battled for 13 days, but they were overwhelmed by a Mexican army of well over 2000 troops. Their determination lived on and Texas won it's independence the following year.
Ten years after Texas won its independence and shortly after it was annexed by the United States, U.S. soldiers revived the "Remember the Alamo!" battle cry while fighting against Mexican forces in the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848.
Everyone's heard of the Alamo. It is located in downtown San Antonio a couple blocks from the River Walk. It is not part of the National Park System and pretty commercialized; we did not buy a tour. We walked the grounds for a bit and took a few pictures.
Love these trees. Can't tell where one stops and another starts.
