Chimborazo Hospital
Richmond VA
We passed the site of Elizabeth Van Lew's home. A school is there now.
This building was built in 1909 as a weather station. It houses the Medical Museum.
Cool Victorian house across the street.
The Chimborazo Hospital was a complex of 150 buildings on 40 acres. 78,000 Confederate soldiers were treated here between 1861 and 1865. The well-ventilated buildings became a model for post war hospitals. The pictures tell the story of the hospital and the people who worked there.
By today's standards, this is a bit scary.
