Watkins Glen State Park
The Octagonal House in Geneva, NY Interesting house on our way to the park.
The Finger Lakes
Watkins Glen State Park
These first photos are taken from the suspension bridge. It is 85 feet above the creek but, during the great flood of 1935, the water rose to within five feet of the bridge. Most of the stone work you'll see was built after that flood.
Those people are walking the gorge trail. Abby isn't allowed on the trail and I'm not sure I could make it back up to the top after walking it, so we are taking the car to the other end of the park, while Donna does the trail and takes pictures.
Donna's photos make me jealous, this place is amazing. Walk with Donna and enjoy the approximately 2.0 mile stroll along the gorge
This area is aptly named 'The Narrows'.
This is a close up shot of the Gorge Trail path itself. The water and erosion made an interesting pattern.
This is the first look at Rainbow Falls. For scale notice the two people in the lower left.
Yes, the trail goes behind the waterfall. Then it goes up the steps and across the bridge.
Just past Rainbow Falls,
Rainbow Falls from the other side.
This area is called Spiral Gorge.
After the Mile Point Bridge the gorge opens up a bit for the remainder of the trail to Jacob's Ladder.
Another close up of the Gorge Trail footpath.
These are the start of the steps called Jacob's Ladder.
These steps are called "Jacob's Ladder" and consist of 180 steps. This is the end of the Gorge Trail and Abby and I are waiting in the parking lot at the top.
